Off-Gassing Carpets

There are lots of new types of carpeting on the market today, carpet made of everything from recycled plastic bottles to natural fibers.  Many carpets boast less toxicity and they do have fewer toxins compared to when I got started.  In my career, I have experienced thousands of cleaning situations here in the Rogue Valley and discovered that regardless of whether you install top-of-the-line non-toxic carpeting or the least expensive stuff, they all have off-gassing issues.

Off-gassing…yes, it’s as unpleasant as it sounds.

“Off-gassing” is when the synthetic compounds used in manufacturing evaporate and enter the air.  If the fumes are in the air, it means the fumes are in your eyes, nose, and lungs.  I clean a lot of rental properties and even the units that have been cleaned still have an odor if left closed up for a period of time.  How uncomfortable the off-gassing makes you depends on your sensitivity.  The movement of fresh air is key to keeping the off-gassing from making your environment toxic.  We’re coming into winter, though, so opening the windows and doors may not be a good option at this time of year.  If you have installed or are planning to install new carpet, be aware that you may be sensitive to the fumes.  If that’s the case, give NewAge Carpet Cleaning a call.  I can do a thorough rinse of your new carpet to help speed up the off-gassing process.

Twenty-three years ago I started NewAge Carpet Cleaning because I knew there had to be a way to clean carpets without all the chemicals and side effects.  You know what?  I was right.  NewAge Carpet Cleaning is a natural, chemical-free way to combat toxic off-gassing.  Give us a call and find out how we can help make your new carpet even better.
